Concrete Staining in Toronto — what to know

Our GTA crew installs concrete staining for projects large and small in Toronto. Rich, variegated colour applied directly to interior concrete — no two floors identical. Toronto homes range from century-old Victorian and Edwardian builds through mid-century bungalows to new infill and condo stock — each with its own concrete substrate conditions. We adjust prep and specification based on what we find on site, from original 1920s basements to brand-new garage slabs.

Toronto sits in the Toronto region, and our scheduling runs same-day for consults. The housing mix here means we see every kind of substrate, from century-old concrete to recently poured garage slabs. Each gets prep matched to its condition. For concrete staining specifically, that means choice of acid stain (reactive, earthy) or water-based dye (broad palette), multi-colour application for depth and movement, matched to the actual condition of your slab or wall.

Prep is where coatings succeed or fail, so we mechanically grind every substrate and never skip to shortcuts. Most residential jobs are booked within two weeks of quote acceptance.

Process

  1. 1.Slab preparation: remove existing coatings, open the pores
  2. 2.Test patch in an inconspicuous area to confirm reaction
  3. 3.Stain application in planned patterns or free-form
  4. 4.Neutralization (for acid stains) and cleanup
  5. 5.Optional second colour layer for depth

Common questions

How do I know what colour it'll end up?+

We always do a test patch — usually a 2-foot square in a corner — so you can see how your specific slab reacts before we commit to the full floor. The character of each slab shapes the final result.

Will it fade?+

Under a sealer, acid stains are permanent and don't fade. Water-based dyes have slightly less UV resistance and should be sealed with a UV-stable topcoat if there's direct sunlight on the floor.

Do you serve all of Toronto?+

Yes — we work across every neighbourhood in Toronto, including Downtown, Yorkville, Liberty Village, and surrounding areas. Scheduling is same-day for consults.

How does Toronto's climate affect concrete staining?+

The GTA's humidity swings and winter heating cycle affect substrate moisture, which is why we moisture-test every slab before scheduling. Concrete Staining systems are selected to handle the conditions we find — including the salt and freeze-thaw stress that garage floors see from November through April.
